Founded in 1952 by Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare, Rajhans Prakashan is one of the prestigious publishing houses in Marathi. Shri G. Majgaonkar, the founder-editor of Manus, a weekly that created a distinctive identity among Marathi weeklies, joined Rajhans in 1957. Through the efforts of these two visionaries, the publishing house gradually took shape. Raja Shivchhatrapati, the celebrated book by Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare, praised by P. L. Deshpande, reached households across Maharashtra and became one of Rajhans Prakashan’s most iconic publications.

The social awareness, intellectual openness, and keen interest in various political and social movements of Shri G. Majgaonkar, who nurtured Rajhans Prakashan, left a lasting imprint on the books published by Rajhans—a legacy that continues to this day.

Shri G. Majgaonkar’s younger brother, Dilip Majgaonkar, joined Rajhans in 1966. He now serves as the Director of the organization. Through the timely selection of subjects, identifying the right authors, maintaining excellent production values, and introducing innovative initiatives to take books to readers, Dilip Majgaonkar strengthened the foundation of Rajhans. As the range of subjects expanded, he established a discerning editorial team known for its expertise and high-quality editing.

Rajhans gradually became known among Marathi readers for its diversity of subjects and richness of content. Alongside publishing, Dilip Majgaonkar also placed due emphasis on distribution and sales, essential components of a successful publishing house. Today, Rajhans has branches in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Goa, creating a widespread network for book distribution and sales.

An extensive collection of inspiring biographies and autobiographies, along with influential books on politics, history, and social issues, are among the distinctive features of Rajhans. The publishing house has also taken a leading role in publishing books on science, environment, eradication of superstition, and literary fiction.
